Facebook Meme Roundup

It was supposed to be a conversion of UFOs, ancient aliens, and alien abductions with fellow Z Talker, Kale Kelly.  Kale was unable to do the show on Saturday, so we have try again next week.

Good thing I had plans for things to talk about.

So, I talked about memes I had found on Facebook.  Some political stuff, some religious stuff, and New Age healing nonsense.  I told of how I was accused of being a troll. Me?  Huh?

The Guy Fawkes mask of the Occupy Movement, crying Speaker John Boehner, Pastafarian philosophy, the earth distance from the sun, and the Thymus Thump all got my attention.

Hitting this member of Blue Man Group's chest will do what now?

I mention this video by Brian Dunning on New Age Energy in my "I'm a troll?" segment. This video gives you the Thymus Thump nonsense right from some New Age type.  It is, in my view, most likely the placebo effect and not actually doing anything for your "energy" or your well-being.  Go here to learn more about the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Movie Recommendation: The Kids Are Alright (1979)

Wonder why I think The Who are the greatest band ever?  This documentary should give you an idea why.

Music heard on the show (Whenever Possible, I Will Link To The Song)...

Dimland Radio opening theme song: 'Ram' by The Yoleus
First ad break bumpers: 'What She Said' by The Smiths & 'All Gone Away' by The Style Council
Second ad break bumpers: 'Knight Moves' by Suzanne Vega & 'Dope Smokin' Moron' by The Replacements
Closing song: 'Angler's Treble Hook' by $5 Fiddle

Hugging A Z-Talker

I made a commend appearance at fellow Z-Talker Jenny Gurney's graduation party.  And, yes, we hugged.
Good Jobs
Driving a train and tearing down houses are good jobs and I tell why in this rambling segment.  A segment in which I also talk about not hearing trains approach and the razing of a neighborhood eyesore.

Go here for an article and pictures of that eyesore.

Disappointed By Dr. Drew

Apparently, Dr. Drew isn't immune to the disease of mediums.  It appears the good doctor gives a platform to the highly dubious James van Praagh and his, what looks to me anyway, cold reading prowess.  It's so disappointing that Dr. Drew does this.  Must be something about television.

Here are two clips of van Praagh not talking to the dead and not understanding the law of large numbers.  Here and here.
Movie Recommendation: On The Waterfront (1954)

Columbia Pictures

This movie is excellent!  Gritty and real.  If you haven't seen it, see it!

Music heard on the show (Whenever Possible, I Will Link To The Song)...

Dimland Radio opening theme song: 'Ram' by The Yoleus
First ad break bumpers: 'Raspberry Beret' by Prince & 'And Through The Wire' by Peter Gabriel
Second ad break bumpers: 'Freeze Tag' by Suzanne Vega & 'Los Angeles' by X
Closing song: 'Angler's Treble Hook' by $5 Fiddle

You Know What Irritates Me?

I kind of wandered all around in this segment, but I started by complaining about the Honda commercial with the kids spontaneously doing an a cappella version of Ozzy Osbourne's 'Crazy Train'.  I have serious doubts any of those kids would have ever heard of that song.

Gimme A Head With...

Hair.  I talked about hair.  About "gingers," about hair coloring kits, about my preferred hair length for my hair, about Jason Alexander's miraculous hair gain, and about some other aspects of hair.

Jason Alexander's life imitates art moment is explained by him here.
I also talked about the Toupee Fallacy.

Irresponsible Website Gives Teen Girls A Bad Idea

Two teenage girls were killing and a third was critically injured when they played the "Ghost Train game" on the railroad tracks near Poplar Bluff, MO.  The "game" is to stop your vehicle at midnight on a particular railroad crossing, turn off the engine, let the windows fog up and wait for ghostly visions.  Well, these girls and two others who were uninjured did just that and their Jeep was struck by a train.
I frequently mention Tim Farley's website WhatsTheHarm.net on my show, not in an attempt to steal from Tim, but to take the cue that I should warn listeners that stories like this demonstrate the harm.  Two girls are dead and another injured because people don't understand just what is the harm.

The compilers of that website may not be directly responsible for the girls' behavior, but they did spell out exactly what was to be done to get that thrill.  Shame on them.

Movie Recommendation: Marvel's The Avengers (2012)

Walt Disney Pictures
A childhood dream come true.  When I was kid and comic book collector my favorite title was The Avengers.  I remember wishing that Hollywood would make it into a movie.  At the time the technology didn't exist to do the material justice, but it does now and we have this movie because of it.  It's a lot of fun and worthy that childhood dream.

Music heard on the show (Whenever Possible, I Will Link To The Song)...

Dimland Radio opening theme song: 'Ram' by The Yoleus
First ad break bumpers: 'The Cutter' by Echo & the Bunnymen & 'No Language In Our Lungs' by XTC
Second ad break bumpers: 'Requiem' by Killing Joke & '24' by Game Theory
Closing song: 'Angler's Treble Hook' by $5 Fiddle

Ethan Brown Reading Area

Some time back was an event organized by young math wiz Ethan Brown to raise funds for his local library.  The event was a success and Ethan was honored by the library.

Comic Book News

Sales of the paper copies of comic books are way up.  And gay characters are coming out and/or getting married.  Which is cool.

Read about it here, here and here.

Bigfoot Again

Another piece of crap video that may be of bigfoot, but it's so lousy it could be anything.  A guy in a gorilla suit, for instance.  And the "experts" from NOT Finding Bigfoot are on the way.  They'll surely get to the bottom of it.

Go here and here to learn more.  And I mentioned this video of an actual bear walking upright in the wild.  You should check it out, it's very strange.

Jesus In A Shower?

A family of modest means believes they can see the face of Jesus in the mold on their shower.  I believe they need to clean their shower.

See the story here.

The Transit Of Venus

It's happening this week.  Venus' orbit will have it moving across the face of the sun and, with proper precautions you should be able to see it as it happens.

This link will bring you to Phil Plait's site for more information.

Movie Recommendation: Patton (1970)

20th Century Fox

George C Scott is brilliant in this biopic of the great and controversial WWII general.  His performance earned him an Oscar, but Scott refused to accept it.

Music heard on the show (Whenever Possible, I Will Link To The Song)...

Dimland Radio opening theme song: 'Ram' by The Yoleus
First ad break bumpers: 'Psycho Therapy' by The Ramones & 'Yacht Dance by XTC
Second ad break bumpers: 'My Baby She's Alright' by Scruffy The Cat & 'Perfect Skin' by Lloyd Cole & the Commotions
Closing song: 'Angler's Treble Hook' by $5 Fiddle
